Einladung zur Hubertusfeier 2026

The tradition of honoring the Hubertus stag…

is an ancient cultural practice closely associated with hunting and nature conservation. This tradition is named after Saint Hubert of Liège, who lived in the 7th century and later became revered as the patron saint of hunters. The honoring of the Hubertus stag is particularly prevalent in some European countries such as Germany, Austria, Belgium, and France.

Here’s a description of this tradition:

  1. Hubertus Mass: The honoring of the Hubertus stag often begins with a special Mass known as the Hubertus Mass. This Mass is typically held in a church and is dedicated to hunters and conservationists. During the Mass, prayers are offered for a safe and responsible hunting expedition, and Saint Hubertus is invoked for protection and guidance for hunters.
  2. Stag Statue or Painting: In many hunting lodges, inns, or hunting clubs, you can often find a representation of the Hubertus stag, whether in the form of a statue or a painting. This stag symbolizes the honor and respect for nature and the wild game that is hunted.
  3. Hubertus Feast: The Hubertus Feast is a celebration that often follows the Hubertus Mass. It is a social event where hunters and conservationists come together to celebrate their shared passion for nature and hunting. Stories are exchanged, hunting successes are celebrated, and sometimes awards are presented for exceptional contributions to hunting.
  4. Hunting Rituals: In some regions, there are also hunting rituals associated with the honoring of the Hubertus stag. This may include the ceremonial “blowing of the horn,” signaling the start of the hunting season, or special ceremonies when bringing in the harvested game.
  5. Respect for Nature: A central message of this tradition is respect for nature and wildlife. Hunters are encouraged to hunt responsibly, protect wildlife populations, and preserve ecosystems.

The honoring of the Hubertus stag is not just a tradition for hunters; it is also a celebration of nature and an expression of respect for wildlife. It emphasizes the importance of sustainable and ethical hunting practices as well as the preservation of the natural environment.
